So I’ve touched down in Ireland and have been here for about two days. The jet lag hasn’t affected me, but that is because I listened to the advice that I got from everyone who had ever traveled:
“Don’t sleep until it’s okay to sleep where you land.”
That meant that I arrived in Ireland at 4:45 in the morning and didn’t get to sleep until 9:00 pm. That doesn’t sound awful except for the fact that I had been awake for a total of 32 hours.
It was worth it though, I woke up rested and ready to go this morning.
The trip was quiet the hassle though. I got to the airport in plenty of time, checked into my flight, checked my extra bags, said farewell to my parents, and was ready to go. My flight was delayed though. By an hour.
On any other trip this wouldn’t be terrible, just another hour before I had to be back at school, but for me this was an issue.
I had a two hour layover in JFK which was cut down to an hour because of this delay. Now again, this doesn’t seem terrible, but I had to get from terminal 8 to terminal 4 in an hour, check in, go through security, find my gate, and then board.
I made it in time, but just barely. One train ride, a frantic call to my parents, one slow check-in person, one excruciatingly long security line, and one scared girlfriend late, I ended up having just enough time to use the restroom and send my parents a quick text.
One flight later I arrived in Ireland and the rest is to follow.
